QUESTION 90

DATE OF PUBLICATION OF INTERNAL QUESTION PAPER : 28/02/2012 (INTERNAL QUESTION PAPER : 05/2012)

Mr AM Mpotshane (IFP) to ask the Minister of Basic Education:

Whether she intends reviewing the employment system of principals of schools; if not, why not; if so, what new system is her department considering? NO 525E

REPLY

Yes, the Department of Basic Education is reviewing the employment system of Principals.

The review will concentrate on the role of the School Governing Body in the recruitment process with regard to the appointment of Principals.

The School Governing Body in some schools doesn’t have the capacity to carry out this function effectively and according to regulations; while others are able to do this function without any challenges.

The reviewed system will address this in order to ensure that the process of recruitment of Principals are done according to the prescripts of the Employment of Educators Act, 1998 (as amended)
