Funding of Grade Rs

11.       Mr J J Londt (Western Cape: DA) to ask the Minister of Basic Education:

(1)        (a) How many (i) Grade R classes are funded by her department at each school in the (aa) Kouga and (bb) Koukamma Local Municipalities, (ii) learners are in each of the classes, (iii) teaching posts are funded for the classes at each school and (iv) of the Grade R classes are funded by the School Governing Bodies at each school and (b) what is the teacher to learner ratio at each school;

(2)        (a) how many (i) Grade R classes are funded by the non-profit organisations in the (aa) Kouga and (bb) Koukamma Local Municipalities and (ii) learners are accommodated in such classes and (b) what is the teacher to learner ratio in each school?                                                                                       CW11E

Question 1

According to the EMIS, 10th Day schools census, Kouga’s 29 schools had 47 Grade R classes, 1455 learners, 41 state and 6 SGB paid educators respectively. Whilst Kou-Kamma’s 20 schools comprised 25 Grade R classes, 614 learners, 22 and 3 state and SGB paid educators respectively. The average learner/educator ratios were 34.6 and 33.6 for Kouga and Kou-Kamma respectively
