Educators
importance of educators

Teachers play a significant role in the upliftment and transformation of our society. They bear the weight and responsibility of teaching, and, apart from parents, are the main source of knowledge and values for children.

The Department of Basic Education is working hard to address the multiple and complex challenges that the education sector faces. The Department looks forward particularly to strengthening its support for teachers.

Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2011

TIMSS 2011 is centrally co-ordinated by International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA), and is managed by Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) in South Africa.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) is making TIMSS Released Items available on this website as well as on the Thutong portal (http://www.thutong.doe.gov.za/). It is hoped that teachers will make use of these items to prepare learners on what to expect on the TIMSS tests. These items remain a useful resource for the teaching and learning of Natural Sciences and Mathematics beyond TIMSS 2011.
