MUST-HAVE MATRIC Q+A EXAMPLARS AND MEMORANDA PUBLISHED IN SUNDAY TIMES ON SEPTEMBER 13

Sunday Times is publishing a must-have 48-page tabloid containing matric exemplars and memoranda on Sunday, September 13, to assist matric pupils studying for their upcoming exams. The subjects chose have the highest learner enrolment and are being published for the first time nationally. The exemplars have been written by top teachers in their respective fields and assessed by the Department of Education (DoE) curricula specialists.

The Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, has also endorsed the supplement as an essential resource for learners who are writing exams for the new outcomes-based syllabus for only the second time. The matric supplement is the newest resource available to prepare pupils. The 2008 National Senior Certificate examination results show that 200 000 out of just over 550 000 learners that wrote exams failed.

The Sunday Matric Q+A supplement contains exemplars and memoranda for English First Additional Language, Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, Accounting, Physical Science, Life Sciences, History, Geography and Business Studies.

“We call not only on matrics and their parents to ensure they get a copy of this essential guide, but call on all South Africans to make a difference and get the Sunday Times in order to donate the supplement to their local high schools to further assist,” says Susan Russell, GM Marketing: Avusa Media.

The National Education Infrastructure Management System indicates that 42% of schools are overcrowded, 79% are without libraries, 68% without computers and 60% without laboratories.

Over 300,000 copies of the Sunday Times matric Q+A is going to be distributed around the country to areas where schools are being targeted for improvement. The Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal had the lowest matric pass rates last year, which were all under 60%.

The supplement will also be available on www.learn.co.za from Sunday, September 13. For more information on the guide please contact Patti McDonald, publisher of Avusa Education on 011 280 5565 or email her at patti.mcdonald@learn.co.za .
