The Research and Performance Trends page reflects on the Departments efforts regarding national monitoring, research and evaluation to support the medium to long range performance of the education system.  This includes comparative analyses and research co-ordination in support of overall sectoral goals.

Research, Monitoring & Evaluation Reports

 

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) conducts research, evaluations and monitoring in line with sectoral plans, strategic areas and goals. This includes collaborations with other Departments and stakeholders in the sector. The reports emerging from this work have been categorised for ease of reference as indicated below. This link will be updated as new reports are made available. The categories are as follows:

Research Events

 

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has committed to hosting a series of research roundtables, seminars, and workshops informed by consultations with stakeholders, emerging issues and education findings as well research reports developed by the Department and partners. Several events have been hosted between 2012 and 2015. The research event documents including programmes, presentations and reports are available on this link.

Provincial, District and School Monitoring Tools

The DBE, in consultation with Provincial Education Departments has undertaken processes to strengthen quarterly planning, reporting and monitoring by provinces and the national office. This includes strengthening existing reporting structures and requirements, as well as developing more efficient processes in other instances.

 

This link contains a subset of standardised monitoring and reporting tools and guidelines available for stakeholders to assist in the monitoring and reporting of education provision nationally. Furthermore, information on each education district is provided to assist planners, managers and parents in understanding education districts.

In addition, the link contains research protocols. These are intended to assist the Department, stakeholders and researcher in understanding the processes to be followed for conducting research in schools, districts, provinces and the Department.
