Support Your Child's Education

All parents want their children to do well in school and most parents do what they can to support their child’s education. But some parents do not support their children and children suffer as a result.

The one thing that parents need to know is that their role in helping children learn is different from the teacher’s role in helping children learn. As a parent, your role is to support the teacher and to ensure that your child is ready to learn.

Parents should see the education of their child as a partnership between parent, teacher, the school and the broader school community.

How can parents support the ‘Hands up 4 Education’ campaign?

  • Establish a relationship with your child’s teacher
  • Ensure that your child arrives at school on time for class
  • Assist your child with his homework and exam preparation
  • Get involved in the governance of your child’s school
  • Assist sport and cultural teams at your child’s school
  • Assist the management of your child’s school with the upkeep of the school property
  • Provide access to the Internet or printer to your neighbour or colleague’s child for research or revision
  • Support the Class of 2011
