Minister Angie Motshekga takes Second Chance Matric Support Program and Read to Lead to Pimville, Soweto, 25 March 2019

The Basic Education Minister, Mrs Angie Motshekga will on Tuesday, 26 March 2019 take the Department’s #Read2Lead and #SecondChance to Grace Bible Church in Pimville Zone 1, Soweto in Gauteng.

The department invites all candidates who have previously not met the minimum pass requirements of the National Senior Certificate as well as those currently in matric to take advantage of the specially designed Matric Support Programme.

The National Senior Certificate Learner Retention Programme, also known as the Second Chance Matric Support Programme, was launched in 2016 to respond to the NDP’s injunction that retention rates should be improved; and drop-out rates reduced, provides support to learners who could not meet the pass requirements of the National Senior Certificate Examinations.

The focus of the Read to Lead Campaign is to improve the reading abilities of all South African children whilst the main aim of the Campaign is to ensure that all learners are able to demonstrate age appropriate levels of reading. The Campaign calls on a variety of partners and stakeholders to engage in developing and maintaining a reading culture.

The department will share information with those interested in becoming educators on how to register for the Funza Lushaka Bursary and the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) will also provide career guidance to those who wish to study further.
