Curriculum Assessment Policy Statements (CAPS)

Following Minister Angie Motshekga's decision to implement the recommendations of the Report of a Ministerial Task Team on the implementation of the National Curriculum Statements Grades R-12 in schools, the Minister appointed a Ministerial Project Committee with the aim of developing National Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statements for each subjet listed in the National Curriculum Statement Grades R-12.

What is a National Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement?

A National Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement is a single, comprehesive, and concise policy document, which will replace the current Subject and Learning Area Statements, Learning Programme Guidelines and Subject Assessment Guidelines for all the subjects listed in the National Curriculum Statement Grades R - 12.

Submission of comments

It is important to note that the development of National Curriculum and Assessment Statements must not be seen as a new curriculum but only as a refined and repackaged National Curriculum Statement Grades R - 12. All comments must therefore be based on this assumption.

It would greatly assist the Department of Basic Education if all submissions could be prepared under the headings listed in the National Curriculum and Assessment Policy Frameworks. If you do not wish to comment under a particular heading, please indicate "NocComment".

The closing date for the submission of comments is the 15 October 2010.

Please send or deliver your submission to:
