Minister of Basic Education recognises the best performing education districts, 05 April 2018

The Minister of Basic Education Mrs Angie Motshekga will on Friday, 06 April 2018 salute, acknowledge and recognise the contribution of education districts at the 2018 National Education Excellence Awards which will be hosted in Menlyn, Pretoria. 

The District Awards are aimed at complementing the National Teaching Awards and National School Nutrition Programme Awards and to celebrate district excellence in areas focused on improving the quality of learning outcomes. The 2018 Education Excellence Awards brings together different awards in the system.

The department has been recognising and celebrating districts that have shown consistent improvement or maintained excellent performance across all levels of the system since the first awards ceremony were held in April 2014.  

The consolidation of the awards has seen an introduction of new categories of recognition and focuses on the management and leadership of districts, quality performance at FET level, support for improving Primary School Learning Outcomes and movement towards achieving Inclusive Education for all.
