Minister Angie Motshekga to honour top performing districts in the 2018 NSC Exam at the 2019 Education Excellence Awards, 14 March 2019

The Minister of Basic Education, Mrs Angie Motshekga will on Friday, 15 March 2019, celebrate excellence in District and School performance at the annual National Education Excellence Awards.

The programme started in 2014 with a focus on National Senior Certificate performance. Over the years the Awards have focused on additional areas including how districts are led and managed, how primary schools are supported to improve learning outcomes as well as the learning environment for learners with special educational needs is improved.

In 2019 the Minister will also recognise provinces that are making visible inroads into the improvement of quality of outcomes for schools in the poorest quintiles – Q1 – 3 – with a focus on those provinces that have contributed to the highest improvement in Bachelor passes in these quintiles over the past five years.

Districts are a crucial interface of the basic education sector in identifying best practice, sharing information, and providing support to schools. Schools are where the tyre hits the road. The Department of Basic Education is proud to celebrate the men and women who work tirelessly to improve the quality of education for the children of South Africa.
