DG Mweli resumes Learner Support Programme in the Limpopo Province

Basic Education Director-General, Mr Mathanzima Mweli, this week resumed his Learner Support Programme in the Limpopo Province. As part of the visits, he meets with School Management Teams for them to present their comprehensive improvement plans aimed at enhancing educational outcomes after which he meets with the Class of 2025 for a motivational session where he shares five key best practices, referred to as “The 5 Nuggets”, to empower learners and boost their overall academic performance. DG Mweli visits about ten schools per day to provide continuous support to both learners and teachers as part of his Learner Support Programme.

Mr Mathanzima Mweli, accompanied by Ms Mataole Ramohapi, Director for Intergovernmental and Technical Support from the DBE, kicked off their week at the Marude Secondary School located in the Vhembe East Education District on 23 June at 5am in the morning. 

DG Mweli then visited Vhembe West Education District on 24 June. DG Mweli proceeded to the Mopani East Education District on 25 June where his morning session commenced with district officials at Gija Ngove Secondary School in Giyani, where key insights into the district’s performance were shared. The District Director of Mopani East, opened the session by outlining the district’s performance, starting with Grade R, and raised concerns regarding Home Languages, specifically Xitsonga and Sepedi. The Acting Head of Curriculum also presented on the Further Education and Training (FET) phase, noting persistent challenges in Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy.

DG Mweli visited the Mopani West District in the Limpopo province on 26 June. The first stop of the day was at Ramatau Secondary School, where DG Mweli had an early morning meeting with district directors and circuit managers. They reflected on the district's performance and discussed a way forward for further improvement. After the session, DG Mweli again met with learners sharing encouragement, inspiration and a powerful message to keep pushing forward towards academic excellence. Demonstrating a strong commitment to monitoring progress and fostering improvements in the education sector, DG Mweli will be visiting the Sekhukhune East Education District on 27 June 2025.
