Director-General Mweli has visited winter camps at Hoërskool Stella in the North West Province, the University of the Free State and Emakhazeni Boarding School in Mpumalanga Province
The DBE, in partnership with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), Thuthuka and FASSET are strengthening support and monitoring to the Winter Learner Support Programme for Grade 12 learners to increase participation in Business, Commercial Management (BCM) and Mathematics, Science and Technology (MST) subjects across all nine provinces. These efforts will contribute to the geometric increase in the number of learners who pursue careers such as a Chartered Accountant and many others which require the aforementioned subjects.
In her keynote address, Education MEC, Dr Mamiki Maboya, urged learners to emulate the Class of 2024: “The Free State Department of Education will support you to ensure that you are not just attaining average passes. We expect you to attain quality results, including distinctions in the subjects taught during the course of the camp. Learners who remain dedicated to their studies are more likely to break the circle of poverty in their families. I encourage you to seize this opportunity to shape your future for the better. I anticipate seeing you in higher places. I want to see you in board rooms, I want to see you as medical doctors as well as qualified engineers in this country. Any dream can be realised as long as you remain committed. I wish you well for the remainder of the winter school holidays”.
The DBE and partners have successfully hosted the SAICA Provincial Winter Learner Support Programme for high flyers at Hoërskool Stella in the North West Province, the University of the Free State, the Mangaung Metro Education District in the Free State Province and the Emakhazeni Boarding School, in the Mpumalanga Province.
