The DBE, in partnership with Bright Media, hosted a national training workshop at Birchwood Conference Centre from 26-27 March 2015, to equip teachers with skills and material to enable quality learning and teaching for the Mathematical Literacy across the country. This Bright Media “Managing My Finances” project is funded by the members of the South African Insurance Association at no cost to teachers. The project includes resources, teacher training and audio-visual resources that target poor and remote communities and brings rich resources to schools.
The teachers are at the centre of this initiative and 1892 teachers from Grades 10, 11 and 12 have already benefitted from the 38 training workshops hosted in all nine provinces. The idea is to enrich the teachers who will, in turn, add value in their classrooms. During an interview with Ingrid Bruynse, the Director for Bright Media, it was evident that the partnership between the DBE and Bright Media will add value for a holistic approach to teacher development. “The training provides teachers with new methodologies, lesson plans, activities and resources for their learners: the materials are of a high quality, in full colour, and include 4 posters to enrich classroom practice. It provides new and creative ideas on teaching Maths Literacy.
