The Chairperson of the Basic Education Portfolio Committee, Ms Nomalungelo Gina, will on Thursday 18 February 2016 continue to deliver sustainable change to rural and urban underprivileged education with the official handover of Red River Primary School in Mannenburg, Cape Town.
Through the Accelerated Schools Infrastructure Delivery Initiative
(ASIDI) of the Department of Basic Education ASIDI has now completed more than 136 schools nationally which continue to stand as beacons of hope, expressions that show the true strength and triumph of the human spirit over any challenge and circumstance.
As an R8.2-billion Infrastructure programme, the mandate of ASIDI is the eradication of schools built from inappropriate material and to provide basic services of water, sanitation and electricity to those schools that previously had none.
With 136 schools completed to date, more than 20 of which are in the Western Cape, ASIDI continues to ensure the restoration of dignity to rural and underprivileged urban education.
