The DBE’s National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP) Directorate, together with the Mpumalanga and Limpopo Departments of Education, and in partnership with Nestlé SA, will be commemorating National Nutrition Week (NNW) under the theme: “Food for Health, Health for All”. The 2025 theme underscores the critical connection between nutrition and health, advocating for a whole-of-society approach to improve nutritional well-being across South African communities.
The national campaign will be taking place at Sibonelo Primary School in Sibonelo Village in the Siyabuswa Nkangala District, Mpumalanga Province on 15 October 2025. The final leg of the campaign will be hosted at Langutelani Primary School, Ka-Ndengeza Mavhuza Village, in the Giyani Mopani East District, Limpopo Province on 23 October 2025.
National Nutrition Week is observed annually from 9 to 15 October to raise awareness about the importance of healthy eating and living a healthy lifestyle. The South African government, together with a wide range of stakeholders, recognises that proper nutrition and a balanced diet, particularly for children, are essential for optimal physical and mental health, as well as overall development. Good nutrition in children is equally important for preventing disease, promoting overall well-being and school attendance. Healthy eating is especially important during the writing of the final year examinations as the 2025 academic year draws to a close.
