Government officially launched the 2026 Child Protection Month (CPM) on 3 May 2026, under the theme: “Working Together to End Violence Against Children.” CPM is a national campaign aimed at promoting and protecting the rights, safety, and well-being of children in South Africa.
The campaign comes at a critical time, as many children continue to face abuse, neglect, exploitation, and harm across homes, schools, communities, and digital platforms. The 2026 CPM prioritises strengthening the management of statutory rape cases, including improved identification, reporting, investigation, and access to therapeutic support services.
A dedicated focus is placed on addressing statutory rape, in response to rising teenage pregnancies and ongoing gaps in mandatory reporting and case management. Ending violence against children requires collective action from all sectors of society, and Government urges all stakeholders to work together to protect children from harm.
Report any concerns immediately to the South African Police Service Crime Stop line on 08600 10111. Access counselling and emotional support from the Department of Social Development’s Command Centre by calling 0800 428 428.
