The DBE extends its heartfelt congratulations to the U15 boys’ and girls’ football teams for their outstanding achievement in winning the COSAFA U15 Schools Football Championships, held from 11-13 October 2024 in Walvis Bay, Namibia.
Their determination, skill and sportsmanship are a true testament to the vibrant talent within our schools and the continued strength of school sports in South Africa. These victories reflect the unwavering commitment of both the Departments of Basic Education and Sport, Arts and Culture to nurturing young talent and ensuring that school sports remain an essential pillar of holistic education.
Furthermore, this victory is underscored by the significance of the recently signed MoU between the two departments which sought to reemphasise both departments' commitments to the strengthening of school sport.
This achievement highlights the impact of our schools’ sports programmes, which foster teamwork, discipline, and leadership amongst learners, preparing them for success both on and off the field. We encourage all South Africans to rally behind school sports and show their support for our young athletes who stand for our future champions and school sports ambassadors. Let us continue to uplift these champions and inspire more youth to take part in sports by sharing congratulatory messages using the hashtag #BothAreHome.
Once again, congratulations to the U15 teams, their coaches, the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, SAFA, as well as officials who play a significant role in ensuring that #SchoolSportIsAlive.
