Jack Botes Hall in Polokwane became a hub of innovation and scientific excitement from 14 to 15 August 2026, as young scientists from Capricorn and Sekhukhune Districts showcased 151 projects at the Eskom Expo Regional Science Fair. From primary to secondary and high school, learners demonstrated creativity, research, experimentation and problem-solving.

Limpopo MST Director, Mr Tovhowani Maswime, alongside the Department of Basic Education (DBE) officials from MST, Curriculum Innovation and e-Learning, witnessed the inspiring showcase.

Ms Desiree Letshwiti, the Chief Education Specialist for Technical Subjects: Electrical and Mechanical Technology from the DBE, congratulated learners, reminding them that reaching the regional stage makes them all winners and encouraged them to see themselves as future scientists, engineers, innovators and entrepreneurs. She thanked teachers and parents for rallying behind the learners and urged participants to protect their innovations and patents, as promising prototypes could attract investors and become viable products and businesses.

Outstanding achievers included Jerusha Mthombeni (Best Female), Dimpho Ntjana (Best Energy), Mashabela Mahlatjie (Best Innovation) and Neo Chuene (Best Development). Teachers who supported previous Expos were also recognised with appreciation certificates.

A total of 151 projects. Countless possibilities. One powerful message: Limpopo’s young minds are ready to innovate!
