Director-General Mr Hubert Mweli provided a strategic reflection on South Africa’s G20 Education Working Group journey. He recapped the three pivotal meetings, February’s virtual launch, May’s in-person dialogue in Sun City, and July’s convening in Zimbali, each deepening global conversations on foundational learning, mutual recognition of qualifications, and professional development.

He affirmed that the nine Provincial Izindaba, culminating in this National Indaba, have grounded South Africa’s presidency in lived realities and diverse voices. Looking ahead to October’s Ministerial Summit in Skukuza, Mr Mweli emphasized: “This Indaba is not the end, it is the momentum we carry into Skukuza and beyond.” As the Indaba drew to a close, the spirit of partnership was palpable. Voices from across the country, officials, educators, learners, policymakers, and community leaders, converged around a shared commitment: to build an education system that delivers with urgency, equity, and excellence. The message was clear and resounding: South Africa’s education future will be shaped by collective action, grounded in real experience, and driven by those closest to the challenge.
