Basic Education Director-General Mr Mathanzima Mweli, last week, continued his visits to education districts and schools in the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal Provinces as part of his Learner Support Programme.

Mr Mweli visited the Xhariep District on 3 March; the Motheo District on 4 March; and the Thabo Mofutsanyana District on 5 March. DG Mweli then departed for the KwaZulu-Natal Province where he visited the uThukela District on 6 March and the Harry Gwala District on 7 March 2025.

During these visits, Mr Mweli celebrates and acknowledges the achievements of education districts, and motivates School Management Teams, Circuit Managers, GET and FET Subject Advisors and District Directors to continue with their Learner Support Programmes. He also meets with the Class of 2025 to share words of wisdom and motivation for them to outperform the Class of 2024.

Mr Mweli shared five golden nuggets with the Class of 2025 to encourage and motivate them to perform even better than the Class of 2024. These are: to attend school every day as regular attendance is key to success; to pay attention in class and to listen carefully and observe what teachers say and do; to follow a personal study timetable. This implied to study two subjects for six hours daily from Monday to Sunday, as well as including home language in personal study plans; to use study materials wisely and to take notes in class, using materials from teachers and access past examination papers on the DBE website, and using YouTube for additional learning. “In conclusion, I urge you to be your brother’s and sister’s keeper, by helping and looking out for your fellow learners,” said DG Mweli.
