Basic Education Director-General, Mr Mathanzima Mweli has, since the conclusion of the writing of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations, visited Marking Centres across provinces to oversee the process, a critical phase in determining the outcomes for the Class of 2024.
The Department has set up a total of 183 Marking Centres across the country. This week, DG Mweli visited 25 Marking Centres in the Eastern Cape; 20 Marking Centres in the Free State; and 32 Marking Centres in the KwaZulu-Natal provinces.
DG Mweli commenced with his programme of the support and monitoring of Marking Centres with the North West on 29 November 2024 covering 20 Marking Centres; 12 in the Western Cape on 30 November 2024; 3 in the Northern Cape on 1 December 2024; 16 in Gauteng on 1 and 2 December 2024; 1 DBE Centralised marking on 4 December 2024; 25 in Limpopo on 3 and 4 December; then 21 in Mpumalanga on 2 and 5 December 2024.
“Marking has been progressing well under extremely difficult conditions due to the heatwave and challenges of water provision, to mention but a few. The Centre Management teams; Chief Markers; Internal Moderators; Deputy Chief Markers; Senior Markers; Markers; Examination Assistants; Hospitality Staff; Security Personnel; Social Partners; School Management Leadership; Provincial Education Department and Basic Education Officials remained resolute and united in successfully completing the marking process. Marking is almost complete at the majority of the Marking Centres. I would like to take this opportunity to salute and convey my appreciation and thanks to the aforementioned for the work well done. These are indeed national priceless precious assets,” DG Mweli said.
