Basic Education Deputy Minister, Dr Reginah Mhaule visited Sibukosetfu Secondary School in the Ehlanzeni Education District on 4 May 2026, as part of her national ongoing school monitoring and support programme. This Section 21 Quintile 3 school, serves the community of the Sand River Trust, Nyongana Village in Hazyview, Mpumalanga Province.
The Deputy Minister, joined by Mpumalanga Provincial Education senior managers comprising the District Director and Circuit Manager, received performance reports from several other local schools, including Shabalala Secondary, Majika Primary, and Inkambeni Primary Schools.
“We are here as DBE to provide oversight, to monitor and provide direct support to learners, educators and managers of schools in this District, particularly in this circuit. This District is very close to my heart, therefore its performance will always be in my radar’, Deputy Minister said. Circuit Manager for Hazyview 1, Ms Thandi Masango, gave the Deputy Minister and stakeholders present an overview of Grade 12 learner performance in 2025. The circuit achieved a 94,7 pass rate, a drop of 0,6 percentage points from the previous year. Ms Masango presented a renewed strategy to ensure no further decline in overall Grade 12 performance starting this year. She also presented a comprehensive strategic plan that would ensure that the Class of 2026, with an enrolment of 1,883, reaches the Provincial target of “breaking the ceiling” of 75% in Mathematics.
During the visit, Deputy Minister Mhaule oversaw the handover of dignity packs and school shoes to vulnerable learners by the Khunjulwa Foundation, which donated basic essential resources to learners in the Ehlanzeni Education District. These included new school shoes, toiletries and sanitary hygiene products to support the well-being of girl children. The Deputy Minister expressed her gratitude to the Foundation and other donors for their support towards the education of children in rural schools such as Sibukosetfu Secondary.
