Smart Desks Bring Hope and Innovation to Rural South African Classrooms

The DBE’s Rural Education Directorate, in partnership with MiDesk Global accompanied by MiDesk Global’s Miss World South Africa, Zoalize Jansen van Rensburg, officially handed over smart desks to Boschkop Primary School on 11 August 2025. The occasion underscored government’s broader commitment to building an inclusive, future-ready education system, setting a high standard for what public-private partnerships can achieve in transforming learning environments.

Boschkop Primary School received 110 mobile desks, serving as a critical resource for learners while at school and home. These innovative tools are designed to unlock each learner’s potential, featuring a writing desk, an integrated school bag, and a solar-powered light for reading in low-light conditions.

“The MiDesk Global invention has transformed my perspective on the future of education. These desks have been meticulously designed to adapt to various environments across the world, showcasing the significant role a desk plays in a student's life. Each desk embodies a commitment to enhancing educational experiences, affirming that when we invest in the mind of a child, we are, in essence, investing in the boundless possibilities of a brighter future. In my view, these desks are not merely practical tools for carrying books, providing a workspace, and supporting learning; they are vessels of ambition and potential. They hold the dreams, aspirations, and creative expressions of young minds ready to explore and learn,” stated Zoalize Jansen van Rensburg, Miss World South Africa 2025.

Rural Education Director, Dr Phumzile Langa, welcomed the handover of MiDesk to public schools.  “These desks are more than furniture — they are keys to opportunity. Today, we are not just delivering desks, we are delivering hope, lighting the path for the leaders, innovators, and change-makers of tomorrow,” remarked Dr Langa.
