Director-General Mweli continues to monitor adherence to infrastructure delivery projects

Director-General Mr Hubert Mathanzima Mweli, provincial education officials and implementing agencies are currently conducting visits across provinces to monitor adherence to infrastructure delivery deadlines of water and sanitation projects in schools. The oversight monitoring is currently underway in the KwaZulu-Natal Province.

The provision of water and sanitation will ensure running water and adequate ablution facilities in compliance with norms and standards. The purpose of the project is to eradicate pit latrines and dilapidated sanitation facilities in schools. The facilities comprise of WC toilet seats, urinals for boys, hand washing basins and the appropriate setting for Grade R blocks.

Water tanks will provide running water for hand washing from rain harvesting and water pumps to allow the use of tap water, as well as the drilling of boreholes for water supply to schools for clean running water and decent environments. “The provision of water and sanitation will enhance learning and teaching and restore the dignity of learners and educators,” Mr Mweli said.
