Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme applications invited

Teaching is not a job, but a lifestyle. It will permeate all areas of a person’s life and provide him / her with an opportunity to change lives with the right mix of chalk and challenges. The influence of a teacher cannot be measured as learners could become future leaders, astronauts and innovators who will create marvellous miracles, which will forever change the world, with a teacher at the root of it all. The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme (FLBP) offers prospective teachers an opportunity to turn their passion and vision as change makers into rewarding careers.

By applying for this bursary, prospective teachers are not only investing in their own education, but also contributing to the development of South Africa’s education system. Funza Lushaka bursaries are awarded to students who are committed to pursuing a teaching qualification through a Bachelors of Education with priority areas such as Mathematics, Science, Technology, Engineering and South African Indigenous languages, ensuring that our country’s learners are equipped with critical skills for the changing world.

The FLBP targets youth that are below age 30, who have passed matric / Grade 12 with a bachelors pass or who meet the requirements for entry to a university. In the recruitment process, the Initial Teacher Training Directorate works with provinces, districts, circuits, schools and community leaders that engage with youth programmes.

Applications to a public university of one’s own choice is a prerequisite before applying for the FLBP, of with most universities closing applications by end of October. The Funza Lushaka Information System online application opened on 10 October 2024, for everyone who qualifies to apply to be funded to study teaching. Youth is requested to apply for a Funza Lushaka Bursary online: https://www.eservices.gov.za
